Biography
Marlene Vaughan, a native of Saint John, excelled in sports throughout her life. She began her athletic career at age 10, winning her first Maritime speed skating title. Marlene went on to compete in six sports at various levels, from provincial to national, international, and even the Canada Games. Even with raising four children with her husband, Bill, Marlene won a total of 63 championships in basketball, curling, golf, softball, speed skating, and bowling. In 2011, she won the New Brunswick Masters Curling Championship at age 73, representing her province at the Canadian Masters Curling championships in Winnipeg. Marlene was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame twice, first in 1989 as a member of the Saint John Alpines basketball team, and again in 1991 for her achievements in six sports. Her impressive accomplishments earned her the title of Saint John’s All-Round Female Athlete of the 20th century, as determined by a panel of media and sports personalities.
Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports hall of Fame June 10, 2023.
