Seventeen years as a professional hockey player, 853 NHL games under his belt, twoselections as rookie of the year,a bronze medal in World Junior competition, a Memorial Cup win and a Stanley Cup final should be more than enough to guarantee Sussex's Mike Eagles his place in any Hall of Fame. During his OHL years he was judged as the “best at face-offs, best checker, best defensive forward, best penalty killer, and best contributor to his team, on and off the ice”.Winnipeg’s Mike Smith said that landing this Eagle “was the best trade I ever made”. He is in better physical condition than most- thanks in part to a year round fitness regimen that includes triathlon training and competitions.He retired in 2000, and two years later was appointed head coach of the St. Thomas University “Tommies”. In 2003, he was selected as Canada’s university hockey coach of the year. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 4th, 2005.
